"Chicago"

The “Chicago” was a contemporary of the more familiar “Jewel” and occupied a place alongside it in BBC production as one of their high-end carved offerings.

 

The Chicago featured a sculptured cabinet with tiers of dentil work and ball and bead.

 

The rails were also unique to this model, with a scalloped top edge and ball and bead.

 

It was common practice for smaller manufacturers to produce their versions of the more popular or aesthetically successful BBC designs. In some cases this worked the other way around; I believe the “Jewel” to have been inspired by earlier models.

 

We have in unrestored inventory, a Chicago style table, bearing a “Delps” of Pittsburgh nameplate. This table embodies all of the “Chicago” characteristics. The cabinet is sculptured, in fact, somewhat more articulated than the BBC, and has the tiers of dentil and ball and bead. The rails are of the same design. It differs in that the cabinet is of single-piece European style constructions and the legs are a variation on the theme.
