8' Brunswick "Monroe"

The late 1920’s Brunswick “Monroe” was the last of the president tables (Madison, Jefferson, Monroe) that shared the common characteristics of square-legs, straight sided cabinets and pin-striping. These models were most often African Quartered (“ribbon”) Mahogany, as this table is, but sometimes Oak.

Stylistically these tables, like the earlier square-leg boat-frames, continue the departure from Victorian style and fit broadly in with Mission, Arts & Crafts, and Deco environments.

Construction-wise, the “Monroe” is classed as a “Semi-Jumbo” – a scaled-down version of the previous generation of super heavy “Jumbo-Frame” tables like the Kling, but still featuring a heavy cabinet top-member on which the slate rests. The “Monroe” is found in the eight foot size more frequently than the jumbo tables were.

The Monroe has mother-of-pearl inlays and celluloid pin-striping. Rail-tops are Walnut.
