Brilliant Novelty (ebonized)
Shown here is one of our previous restorations. This table is also featured in the “Notes on Restoration” section of the website as one of our most dramatic before and afters of all time. This particular table was an 8’. early ebonized version with extra flowers. We affectionately dubbed her “Miss Lilly” as she spent her youthful years in a Wild West saloon.
There are more examples of “ Novelty” tables shown below and on the restored Rosewood Novelty’s page.
There were four models of “Novelty” tables made. They all had pagoda legs, turned at 45 degrees and scooped out cabinet corners, resulting in tables with a very distinctive silhouette and stance.
This is another “Novelty” model – the Nonpareil , known for its intricate inlay and dramatic “skirts”. We currently have a pro eight Nonpareil in an ebonized version like the Brilliant Novelty at the top of this page. (see also photos 11 & 11a in “The Attic”)
